Friday, January 13, 2012: We reviewed for the exam (all four units mixed together). Here's a review package, based on last year's exam:

Thursday, January 12, 2012: We had the rest of our CCT presentations today. The final two days of class (Friday and Monday) will be spent reviewing for the exam.

Wednesday, January 11, 2012: We had presentations from 6 of the 12 students in class. Overall, they were well done. Presentations continue tomorrow!

Tuesday, December 20, 2011: Eight of the ten students in the class are writing the test tomorrow. The others can work on their CCT, and I plan to have some exam review prepared for students to work on.

Monday, December 19, 2011: We worked on our CCT's, or studied for the upcoming test. Most students handed in what they currently had done for their CCT. The test will be written in-class on Tuesday or Wednesday (each student makes his/her own choice).

Tuesday, November 29, 2011: We reviewed for the test (more!). I have asked some students (DM (both of them!), AZ, AB) to complete the Chapter 7 Review Questions.

Monday, November 28, 2011: We had a few presentations by students for the Global Warming Creative Writing Project, and then played a short review game, in preparation for the Unit 3 (Climate Change) Test on Thursday

Friday, November 25, 2011: We learned about the Oil Sands and the current Keystone XL Pipeline controversy. We answered a series of questions about the scenario. No homework, but there is a Test on Thursday!

Thursday, November 24, 2011: We took some time to review for the upcoming test, and we learned about climate classification systems.

Wednesday, November 23, 2011: I gave out a sheet of Unit 3 Review Questions to prepare for the test next Thursday. Here it is:

Tuesday, November 22, 2011: We learned about ozone depletion (stratospheric and tropospheric). Projects were due today - the Window of Opportunity closes on Thursday!

Monday, November 21, 2011: We answered a few questions from Chapter 7, and worked on the project which is DUE TOMORROW. The Window of Opportunity is open until Thursday.
Thursday, November 17, 2011: We wrote a short quiz (not for-marks) about climate change. Here is a copy:

Wednesday, November 16, 2011: We learned about the CO2 expenditures from raising food locally and globally, and worked on our projects. Tomorrow, I want to have a small quiz that doesn't count. It will encompass all of the climate change stuff that we've done since October 31.

Tuesday, November 15, 2011: We learned about some environmental initiatives that are going on in the world. We did 2-3 minutes presentations. No homework...but keep working on your projects.

Monday, November 14, 2011: We did an in-class activity about El Nino and La Nina - graphing the ocean's surface temperature over time, and learning what effects these phenomena have on Canada's weather. No homework.


Friday, November 11, 2011: We watched a couple of videos about global warming and climate change. Nova Science Now - Capturing Carbon and Nova Science Now - Algae Fuel. Work on your project over the weekend.

Thursday, November 10, 2011: We created climatographs and I gave out a project. The project is due on Tuesday, November 22 and the Window of Opportunity closes when you leave school on Wednesday. Project Sheet:


Wednesday, November 9, 2011: We learned about monitoring climate / climate change, and how our actions can affect it. Your homework: Use an online "Carbon Footprint" calculator to determine your approximate carbon footprints. Just make a wild guess if you don't know a particular number or fact. Just experience the estimation of your footprint. Bring in a copy of your results (on your laptop is fine).

Tuesday, November 8, 2011: We learned about environmental budgets (specifically, Earth's energy and carbon budgets) and positive/negative feedback loops. Homework: Find two examples (each) of positive and negative feedback loops in the environment. For some examples, see this article from the Guardian

Friday, November 4, 2011: We watched a clip from "The Great Global Warming Swindle" and discussed ways that energy can be exchanged. No homework.

Friday, October 28, 2011: We took up the test, and did an in-class assignment about Arctic Sea Ice changes over time. No homework. Students who got less than 60% on the chemistry test will be asked to rewrite it (not for marks)
